5 Reasons I Switched from an A5 to a B6 Planner: Hobonichi to Wonderland222

In May of 2022, I switched from an A5 to a B6 planner. Here are 5 reasons I made the change from a Hobonichi to a Wonderland222.

I have been planning in the A5 size since my Franklin Covey planner back in the early 2000’s. So why did I switch from an A5 to a B6 planner? Here are 5 reasons why!

1. Size

Portability – While the Hobonichi Cousin isn’t as large as a regular notebook. I often had a hard time fitting it in my purse.

Hobonichi Cousin: 8.3 in. x 5.8 in.

Wonderland222: 6.9 in. x 4.9 in.

Weight – I found the biggest difference to be in weight.

The Wonderland222 in B6 is significantly lighter than the Hobonichi Cousin. You do need to keep in mind that the Hobonichi has 365 daily pages, and the Wonderland222 only has 75. But the new Sterling Ink Common Planner in B6 comes in at around 12 oz. It also has 365 daily pages but is a lot lighter than the Hobonichi Cousin.

Hobonichi Cousin: 18.30 oz (208 g)

Wonderland222: 7.35 oz (517 g)

2. Too much space!

While I enjoy large date boxes to write in, I feel like the Wonderland222 optimizes the entire page, making it only slightly smaller than the actual monthly calendar in the Hobonichi.

I never found a purpose for the extra space at the bottom of the Hobonichi, although I know some people like to keep trackers there.

It was the same with the weekly layout. I always struggled to find something to track on the sidebar. (Note: The Wonderland222 doesn’t have a sidebar because the weekend is stacked…not a big deal for me)

I also didn’t need a 24-hour timeline. Even with the Wonderland222 only covering about 15 hours, I still had extra space to track my dinners at the bottom.

The daily pages were the main reason I left the A5 size. It was just too much space for me. The B6 is perfect because I can use it as a day per page or just a list.

I also prefer that there are no dates I have to follow, that way, I don’t feel like I have to fill the page with something. Some days, I just don’t have as much to do.

3. Cost

The planner itself costs less because of its smaller size, but I also save on leather covers! Less leather = lower cost.

4. I’m a minimalist at heart

Having a smaller planner means less room to decorate. I like to keep my planners minimal, but I sometimes feel the need to fill the space.

5. Perfect size between A5 (too big) and A6 (too small)

I feel like I have found planner peace in the B6 size. The A5 was just way too big, and the A6 didn’t give me enough space for weekly planning. I even tried the Hoboncihi Weeks, but I found that size too small as well.

So, there you gave it! I don’t see myself leaving the B6 size anytime soon. Although holding the A6 planner in my hands made me briefly doubt my decision, I will be planning in the B6 size for 2023.
