Journaling

A Look Inside My Junk Journal So Far

August 31, 2026

I thought it would be fun to share a look at my junk journal as it is right now.

It is definitely not finished, but I have already packed quite a bit into it, and I took some photos so you can see all of the pages I have filled so far.

I also recently filmed a journal with me video. Scroll to the end of this post if you want to check that out too!

I have really been enjoying this style of journaling because there are basically no rules.

I add photos, receipts, stickers, tickets, packaging, little scraps of paper and whatever else I happen to save along the way.

Some pages end up looking really cute and coordinated.

Others are just a bunch of random stuff glued together.

Honestly, I think I like those pages just as much. 😂

Documenting the Ordinary Stuff

One of the biggest reasons I journal is because I love documenting everyday life.

Not just trips, birthdays and big events, but the completely ordinary things too.

What we ate.

Where we went.

A trail run.

A coffee.

Something happening around the house.

A random Sunday with my husband.

The kind of things that don’t seem very important while they’re happening but are so much fun to look back on later.

Of course, the photos are probably my favorite part.

I’ve been doing my photo a day project for years, so I already take a lot of pictures of everyday life. Printing some of those photos and putting them into my journal gives me another way to actually enjoy them instead of letting them sit in my camera roll.

And Then There Is the Junk

This is the part that makes it especially fun.

I’ve started looking at receipts, packaging, tags and random pieces of paper completely differently now.

Before I throw something away, there is usually a quick…

Could I put this in my journal? 😂

A brewery sticker, a receipt from lunch, a tag from something I bought or a little piece of packaging might not mean much on its own, but once I put it beside a photo and write about the day, it becomes part of the memory.

I also love that I don’t have to make everything match.

If I like it, I glue it in.

It’s that simple.

Watching It Get Chunkier

One of the most satisfying parts is watching the journal slowly get floofy.

It started out nice and flat, and now the pages are already filling up with photos and all the random things I’ve collected.

And I still have plenty of journal left to fill.

I’m sure by the time I actually finish this one, it is going to be ridiculously chunky.

Exactly how I like it.

Journal With Me

I did my best to film a journal with me video. I actually found it quite stressful to do on camera 😂 But you can hang out with me while I work on a few more pages and add even more junk to this thing.

Do you save little bits and pieces for your journal too, or are you better at throwing things away than I am?
